Cows, Fulani Herdsmen chased out pupils, takes over class rooms in Benin

It was a pathetic sight today in Benin City as Fulani  herdsmend led their cattles right into the class rooms of Ohonvbe Model primary school in Ikpoba Okha Local Government area of Edo State.

The obviously frighten teacher and pupils had to flee for the fear of their lives, scampering in different direction.

An eye witness who spoke to SILNET NEWS Crew on conditions of anonymity expressed displeasure over the incident. "I am so embarrassed by this act of the herds men,for how long will this continue? where is  houses of assembly? Where are the traditional rulers? can a Christian carry out this kind of act in any part of the northern States in Nigeria? I am bittered in my heart over these nasty people activities in Edo State, have we forgotten the recent killing in ewu? Our leaders have failed  woefully."

According to a teacher in the school, the fulani herdsmen did not only take the cows into the school fields but also inside the class rooms to chase out the pupils.

The head teacher of the school, Mrs Emumen Mercy, while conducting reporter round the school said the pupils had to stay outside for one hour before the herdsmen moved their cows. She noted that the herdsmen have turned the school field into grazing ground during school hours and would usually invade the class rooms when ever it rains

Other watchers expressed divergent views on what should be the immediate response of the youths in Edo State. while some called for massive hunt down and reprisal attack, and others calling on the CSOs in the state to mobilize a mass protest, others however called for caution as violence may not be the right cure to violence.

It will be recalled that last week, following the rape and murder of two women in Ewu, Edo State,  the state governor Mr Godwin Obaseki on a solidarity visit to the people of Esan land sued for calm and appealed that his government should be given 3 weeks to end cattle herdsmen menace in the state.

  2. What a mess my heart bleeds it pains my heart so much that this people can just come to someone else's state and misbehave without the government and the traditional leaders doing anything about it they have to stop them now before it becomes something
    else.
